A community school making the most of your children

Headteacher, Mr D. J. Watchorn B.A.

Abraham Moss High School is a thriving multicultural community, which prides itself on its harmony and success.

The school is deeply committed to the achievement of excellence by all pupils. The staff of the school is highly qualified and motivated and ensures that the needs of each pupil are met.

The academic record of the school is first class and pupils gain excellent examination results.

Abraham Moss High School is a barrier free school and is therefore able to cater for the needs of pupils with movement difficulties. Pupils who experience difficulty with learning receive excellent support. The school is highly skilled in meeting the needs of bilingual pupils.

Our expectations are high. We demand hard work in an atmosphere of mutual respect, harmony and accord. We expect courteous and respectful behaviour towards others, and diligence in study, both in school and at home.
We are proud of our contribution to the thriving multi-racial community of North Manchester, and of the strong links we maintain with local business and community interests through our governing body and the efforts of a resourceful teaching team.

Highly qualified teaching staff offer pupils the best standards in educational excellence with the resources and technological facilities to support all National Curriculum subjects. These include fully equipped science laboratories, information technology suites, performing arts facilities, design technology studios and the high tech Abraham Moss City Learning Centre, hosted by the school.

The school is housed in a specially designed, high quality building completed in 1999. The school enjoys a central location in a community complex with outstanding amenities, a theatre, library, swimming pool, gymnasium and facilities for all indoor and outdoor sports.

The best way to find out more about our school is to come and see for yourself. Parents are very welcome to accompany their child on a curriculum workshop visit organised during year six or to telephone the school to arrange an appointment.

Admission Arrangements

Parents of children wishing for a place in Year 7 in September should apply directly to the: Manchester Education Committee.

Learning for living

Education is about getting the best possible start in life. It is also about acquiring the essential social skills for success.

At Abraham Moss High School, we recognise the primary need for achievement in academic skills and abilities; but success in life requires more, especially the early acquisition of mature attitudes and a sense of purpose.

For every pupil, the first day at Abraham Moss High School is the start of a once-only opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills that life can demand. The effort we put into academic achievement is matched by our effort to help each pupil build confidence and self-esteem, and acquire effective communication skills.

The performing arts play a very important role in this, and all pupils are encouraged to participate as fully as their individual skills allow. Personal development is supported by our on-going policy of pastoral care, and by regular school visits designed to provide stimulus, develop knowledge and understanding, or provide opportunities for personal achievement through challenging group activity.
